ONE HUNDRED THESE ONE HUNDRED

ONE HUNDRED THESE ONE HUNDRED

This poem was dedicated by a friend to Angela Valli di Faenza
at the end of his 15th “hundred”.

ONE HUNDRED THESE ONE HUNDRED

Do you remember the first time?
Did you say … never again?
Since then, amidst enthusiasm
of fiery noons,
red sunsets
and intervals of dark silence,
light up here and there
from wedges of moon and fireflies,
sparse lights to mark the way
of tired feet now,
three years have passed.
Between sweat and fatigue,
you stomped for years
the long stage of the “hundred”.
And now, after 15 years,
stubborn and tenacious,
will you say … never again?
