1973: the birth of the 100km del Passatore
The race that, thanks to a great intuition , Franco Chiavegatti, reporter of the “Corriere della sera” in 28th May 1978 baptized as “the Olympic games of the foolish” in his reportage on the most important Italian newspaper, was born in a cold morning of January 1973.
In 1969 it was created the Society of Passatore following a treasure hunt in the cellars of Romagna, organized by Ente Tutela Vini di Romagna. The participants with their signatures founded the Society. The awards were rulers Alteo Dolcini, Paolo Babini, Charles Cova, Pietro Crementi, for the city of Faenza. As a result, the Company extends to seven sisters Romagna: Imola, Forli, Faenza, Cesena, Rimini, Lugo, Ravenna.
Yes, the “100 chilometri del Passtore Firenze-Romagna(Faenza)”, as it was called, was born; but at the beginning the “worry about how to find some fools ready to face this race!” prevailed rather than the problems of the organization, until…
Until during a cold morning of January 1973, suddenly this absurd idea of the “first ultramarathon of 100km”, maybe thanks to an hot coffee of Egidio’s café, sprang from the mind of these people unexpectedly! They were brilliant that departs volcano of ideas that was Alteo Dolcini, Forlimpopoli of birth and Secretary General of the Municipality of Faenza, who died Sept. 2, 1999, and that formidable organizer who was Francesco Calderoni Checco, “Faenza doc”, insurer and president the sectionand of Manfredi ‘UOEI, Hikers Italian Workers’ Union, who died March 25, 2001, with the help of Renato Cavina, journalist of the “Stadio” and the “Gazzettta dello Sport”, a man keen on “great feats” and he was dean of the city in this category until his death on March 2, 2010; and Carlo Raggi, journalist of the “Resto del Carlino”. Initiative born during a walking in Corso Mazzini (Faenza). The quartet said: Let’s do it! And then whatever will be, it will be!”. This decision was preceded by a sort of meditation…piadina, prosciutto and sangiovese (typical Romagna products) in the restaurant Cà de Bè in Bertinoro (near the hill of Forlì). There, at the table, threw his seed.
After four years (1977), the need of a written memory of these moments shone in the mind of Dolcini, who said: “Everyone should know that we are the people who gave you the possibility to shout “IO C’ERO!”(“I was there!”), even in 10 or 1000 years.Well, the 100km del Passatore reaches this years the XLII edition, featuring for the titles of Singles European Championship, European Team Championship and World Championship
