The expectation is growing for the special edition of the Italian 100 km road championship and FIDAL master to be held on Saturday 22 May starting at 10 at the Enzo and Dino Ferrari racetrack in Imola. A race promoted and organized by the Faenza 100 km del Passatore association together with the homonymous Società del Passatore, Uoei, Csen and Cai. To support the event also Anffas Onlus (Association of Families of Intellectual and Relational Disabled). The Italian 100 km road championship will award absolute and master titles, but will not be valid for the roll of honor of Florence-Faenza whose 48th edition is postponed to 2022.
The length of the track designed for the special edition of the Italian Championship is 5 km, which will be repeated 20 times by the competitors. Over 300 runners will compete on the Santerno track, among which we will find the greatest Italian specialists. Giorgio Calcaterra, Marco Menegardi and Matteo Lucchese are just three of the big names expected at the starting line. 40 women athletes are registered, 35 are newcomers, 17 are from Faenza, 60 are from Romagna. On the occasion of the Italian 100 km road championship will be selected the tricolor runners who will take part in the European Championships with the jersey of the Italian national team.
Among the most accredited rivals for the conquest of the Italian 100 km road championship, in addition to the aforementioned Giorgio Calcaterra, Marco Menegardi and Matteo Lucchese we also find the Trentino Silvano Beatrici (4th at Passatore 2018, 2nd at the 100 km of Brianza in ‘ 16), the Rocchigiano Matteo Lucchese (winner of the 100 km of Seregno 2018, 2nd at the 50 km of Romagna 2018, twice winner of the Pistoia-Abetone Ultra-marathon, recent winner at the Bettona Crossing 2020, at the Ultra Trail of Casola Valsenio 2020 and at the Ultramaratona della Pace sul Lamone ’20), Simone Pessina (2nd in the 50 km of Romagna 2019), Marco Pozza from Bolzano and Roberto Isolda from Varese (winner of the 6 hours of the North Park and Viborg 100 km 2019). Among the outsiders who might surprise, we mention Luigi Pecora from Romagna and Massimo Leonardi from Trentino.
In the women’s field to contend for the victory we find Denise Tappatà from Marche (winner among women at Strasimeno 2021), Federica Moroni from Rimini (absolute triumph at 6 hours Coratina), Sara Trevisan from Treviso (winner in women at Ultra Franciacorta 2021), Lorena Brusamento from Padua and Elisa Benvenuti from Rimini.
